The election this week has been eventful, to say the least. Many races were decided by margins that were the slimmest we have seen in some time. In the end, the Republicans control the Presidency, House, and Senate on the federal level. In Minnesota, the Democrats control the Governor’s Office while the Republicans control the House and Senate. Many in the Human Services community are bemoaning these results as they believe that the Democrats are more sympathetic to our cause.
Regardless of your political affiliation, we need to remember that our government is of the people, by the people, and for the people. The key to this is people. Our elected officials are people with friends and families and opinions just like the rest of us. While most everyone will agree that the individuals we serve deserve to have full and meaningful lives, there will be differing opinions on how to achieve this both between parties and within parties.
The best way to further our cause is through advocacy.

Treating one another with respect and kindness will create the collaboration needed to move disability services forward in both Minnesota and nationally.
Well said, Kristin!
