WHO IS RALPH?

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

In 1923, Alvina Hammer created a safe place for Ralph, pictured. Today we need your support so that we can persevere and keep people safe and healthy in their Hammer homes.

Just as your generosity inspires us today, Ralph’s life at Hammer inspired our logo and statue. Ralph was a lovable boy who lived through the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918! He had a disability few people understood in the 1920s. Most people believed he should be placed in an institution. Alvina Hammer believed he deserved to live in a loving home setting that would focus on his abilities and desires to express himself. She created a place for Ralph. He grew into adulthood, living a full and joyful life supported by Hammer caregivers until he passed away in 1995.

Ralph embodies the spirit of Hammer, a community of people who respect individual’s abilities, whose collective spirit keeps us safe, and whose innovations continue to lead the way, even in the most difficult times, for people living with disabilities.
